Georges Carpentier is an unseen character. He is the opponent of defending World Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey in a forthcoming boxing match. They are due to fight on July 2 in Jersey City.

Carpentier was a real boxer. He served as a pilot and drill instructor for the French during World War I and is regarded as a war hero to Dempsey's chagrin as Dempsey has been accused of draft dodging. Carpentier is the European Heavyweight Champion. He knocked out British Heavyweight Champion Joe Beckett in one round while defending his title in 1919. In real life, he died on October 28, 1975 at the age of 81.
