Margaret Nagle is an American television writer. She wrote the Emmy Award winning HBO mini-series Warm Springs before scripting two episodes for the first season of Boardwalk Empire.


Earlier career[]

Nagle wrote the mini-series Warm Springs for HBO. It starred Cynthia Nixon, Kenneth Branagh, Kathy Bates, David Paymer, Felicia Day and Tim Blake Nelson. It is set during the 1920s and follows the life of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt prior to receiving the democratic nomination in 1928. In 2005 the series won the Emmy Award for Best Television Movie. Nagle won the 2006 Writers Guild of America Award for Long Form Original Screenplay for the mini-series. She was also nominated for the 2005 Emmy Award for Best Writing for a TV Movie. The series was nominated for a record-breaking 16 Emmy Awards and won 5.

Boardwalk Empire[]

Nagle worked as a supervising producer and writer for the first season in 2010. She wrote the season's third episode "Broadway Limited" and co-wrote the fourth episode "Anastasia" with co-executive producer Lawrence Konner. She left the crew after the first season. The first season writing staff won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best New Series in 2010.

Later career[]

Nagle left Boardwalk Empire to work on a sequel to Warm Springs for HBO. The project will be based on Jonathan Alter's book "The Defining Moment". It will focus on the Roosevelts marriage during FDR's first run for the presidency at the height of the Depression.
