The Order of Ancient Celts is a fraternal organization in Atlantic City, New Jersey for Irish Americans. The membership includes powerful figures in local and state politics. The Order marks St. Patrick's Day (March 17) with a raucous dinner. Members wear a sash in the colors of the Irish flag at official functions. In 1919 the dinner featured an address by the Attorney General. In 1920 the dinner is brought to an early close when it is raided by prohibition agents. ("Nights in Ballygran")
When Ethan Thompson dies representatives from the Order wear their sashes to his funeral. ("Battle of the Century")
Curiously, despite being an Irish-American organisation the Order has several Scottish themes at the Dinner, with ceremonial bagpipes played and kilts with sporrans (the pouch worn in front of kilts) worn by members.
