Stefano Magaddino is an unseen character in the third season of Boardwalk Empire. He is a Castellammarese gangster established in Buffalo, New York.

Biography

Background

Magaddino was born in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily and was a cousin of the later infamous Castellammarese crime boss, Joe Bonano. He emigrated to the United States in 1909. After being arrested in 1921 in Avon, New Jersey, as a suspect in the murder of rival mobster "Don Petrino" Caiozzo, Magaddino moved to Niagara Falls, New York. There he combined a legal career as a mortician with one as a bootlegger, smuggling alcohol from Canada into Buffalo before branching out into other businesses, both legal and illegal. Magaddino was one of the most durable US crime bosses, his gripe over Upstate New York not being challenged until his arrest in 1968.

Season 3

Two New York City narcotics agents, Gaetano Caiozzo and Sam Moceri, meet with Lucky Luciano in June 1923 under the pretense of being members of Magaddino's crime family interested in buying heroin from him. Meyer Lansky advises Luciano to cancel the deal, noting that he doesn't know Magaddino, to which Luciano replies that he does. Luciano lies to Lansky saying that he will not make the deal but he does anyways and is arrested as a result. ("Two Imposters")
