Stephen Levinson is an American television producer and writer. He is an Executive producer for Boardwalk Empire. He has worked on the first, second, third and fourth seasons. Levinson had a long working relationship with HBO prior to Boardwalk Empire including the series Entourage, How To Make It In America and In Treatment.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Levinson grew up in Manhasset Hills, New York. He received a bachelor's degree from Tulane University. He worked as an accountant and also founded his own clothing company in New York. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Earlier career[]

He began his career in Hollywood as an agent at InterTalent (later UTA). He founded his own agency, Leverage, in 1996. He became involved in producing television series in 2004 as an Executive Producer for HBO comedy Entourage. Entourage was partly based on the life of Boardwalk Empire executive producer Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg was a client and business partner of Levinson as well as a film actor.

In 2008 Levinson became an executive producer for HBO drama In Treatment, based on the Israeli series Be Tipul.

Levinson has also launched internet sites. He is the owner and creator of WhoRepresents.com a site allowing searches for entertainment industry agents based on their clients, launched in 2000. He also launched TheQuickList.net a site for sharing casting ideas online.

Boardwalk Empire[]

Levinson and Mark Wahlberg were executive producers of Boardwalk Empire from its inception. They brought Terence Winter aboard to adapt the book, Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City. Winter serves as the show runner and head writer for the series. Martin Scorsese joined the project as a director for the pilot episode and an executive producer.

During Boardwalk Empire[]

Levinson continued to work on the final series of In Treatment as an executive producer. The series concluded in December 2010 shortly after the close of Boardwalk Empire season 1.

He worked on Entourage as an executive producer for that show's final season also. It aired between season 1 and season 2 of Boardwalk Empire.
