He initially worked as a staff writer for the first season in 2010. He was promoted to Story Editor mid-season. He became an Executive Story Editor for the second season in 2011. He was again promoted mid-season, this time to Co-Producer. He remained in this role for the third season in 2012. Earlier career[]

Kornacki worked as an assistant and a production co-ordinator in film throughout the 1990s. Pleasantville was one of the films he worked on.

Kornacki joined the crew of HBO drama series The Sopranos as an assistant production coordinator for the second season in 2000. He remained in this role for the third and fourth seasons. He was promoted to production coordinator for the fifth season in 2006. He became the writer's assistant for the sixth and final season in 2006.

Boardwalk Empire[]

He joined the crew as a staff writer for the first season in 2010. He worked on the series pilot "Boardwalk Empire" and returned when the series was picked up. He was promoted to story editor from "Home" onward. He wrote the ninth episode "Belle Femme". The first season writing staff won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best New Series in 2010.

Kornacki returned as an executive story editor for the second season in 2011. He wrote a further three episodes; the fourth episode "What Does the Bee Do?"; the seventh episode "Peg of Old" with co-executive producer Howard Korder and staff writer Bathsheba Doran; and the ninth episode "Battle of the Century". He was promoted to co-producer from "Peg of Old" onwards.

He returned as a co-producer and writer for the third season in 2012. He left the show as a producer after the third season. But returned for season five and wrote the fifth episode "King of Norway."
